Large or small; every project receives care and love.

A deep understanding of how people use space. A forensic analysis of your brief and site, its context and history, underpins every step of our process

Our Services.

Taylor / Wilson are an experienced firm of architects who offer the full range of architectural services.

Design expertise and experience across a range of sectors is backed with an in-depth knowledge of planning and building regulations and expertise in the implementation of industry recognised building contracts during construction.

We specialise in the Homes, Heritage & Conservation and Development Sectors.

We work in accordance with the RIBA Plan of Work and carry RIAS Conservation Accreditation as recognition of expertise in repairing, conserving, adapting and reusing historic buildings.

Vision.

Every project begins with your vision. Maybe you want to design a new home. Maybe you want to extend your existing house. Or maybe you have a piece of land or building you wish to develop.

Whatever your aspirations we can help you to develop your brief, understand what the process involves, how long it might take and what to expect at every stage.

Design.

Once your brief is developed and we are appointed, we will make arrangements for surveys to be completed and commence design work.

We will provide you with different options to assess how best to achieve your goals and help you to visualise these ideas in 3-dimensions. We will lead you through the statutory processes, help you to appoint and engineer and arrange tenders for construction work. Then we will support you to appoint a contractor and enter into an industry recognised form of building contract.

Design is an investment not a cost.

A well designed home, building or place brings your property greater value, experience and efficiency than poorly conceived alternatives. Our promise to you is that every project, whether large or small receives the same care and love with a commitment to deliver a distinctive outcome.

Build.

After you have accepted your tender and appointed a contractor work is ready to begin on site. The construction process can be a complicated mix of excitement and uncertainty, of hopes and dreams and fear of things going wrong.

During the construction process we will be there to provide support and technical guidance to you and your chosen contractor. We will help to administer the terms of your building contract, act impartially in resolving challenges and manage any variations to the works and their associated costs. We will help ensure that you receive all completion documents from the local authority and manage the handover and defects periods to give you comfort that everything is as it should be once works are completed.

Appointing your architect.

Taylor / Wilson use industry recognised standard forms of appointment for all projects with the specific appointment chosen to relate to the size of your project.

Appointments for large domestic projects and all commercial work use the RIAS Scottish Conditions of Appointment of an Architect SCA/2018.

Appointments for domestic projects or smaller non domestic work use the RIAS Scottish Conditions of Appointment of an Architect Small Project Version ASP/2018.

Customer feedback.

Ashley Gardens, Edinburgh 2021

We worked with Andrew with the aim of extending a Bungalow we had just purchased and also moving to the upstairs to add in a dormer and extra rooms.

We met with three different Architects initially and from the off felt most comfortable with Andrew and his team. They totally understood what we were trying to do and asked the pertinent questions to tease out a bit more detail.

I'll never forget the day that my wife and I went to visit their office to see the mock up designs and were totally wowed and lost for words as to how perfectly they brought a rough outline vision in our heads to life on paper.

The team were a joy to work with and a great partnership to get us to the building warrant and planning sign off. When they needed to provide some push back to us it was always completed in a very professional and collaborative manner and always aimed to keep the budget at the forefront of our minds.

If we ever need any more design work completed again we wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Andrew and his team completed a fantastic extension to our Victorian home last year.

They were superb to work with; creative, responsive, and listened carefully to our hopes for the design.

They sourced specialists where required and coordinated the project on our behalf - it made for a painless process.

We are delighted with the outcome and quality of the build - we'd be very happy to recommend their work.

We chose Andrew as our architect for the extension to our home. Now that the work is completed we wouldn't have done it any differently.

Andrew understood our brief and throughout he listened as our ideas evolved and interacted with us as a true professional to produce the plans that have now been realised to our great satisfaction. He guided us through each stage of the process; there were never any surprises because of his thorough approach. The build progressed smoothly; the builder and architect working together each to very high standards.

We are delighted with the service we received form Andrew and his colleagues - they worked as a team.

We have no hesitation in giving them "five stars" for excellent service.
